Last week I told work colleagues (that I know who live in Hadleigh) about the Community Wood idea. Every single one of them thought that it was a great idea and said that they would be involved in some way - from putting up posters to bringing their entire family along to plant trees. So that’s at least 20 people.

I’m bowled over, I think this could work.

I have also written a short article for the Hadleigh Community News magazine, which should (fingers crossed) be in the March edition. I have just looked around the online version of the magazine and can’t see the article. I hope it’s in the paper version I’ll check when I get my copy.

You may have already have heard about community woods. Some of the surrounding villages like Elmsett already have one. Essentially a community wood is a wood that is created and managed by volunteers from the local community and is available for everyone to enjoy.

Some people like to be part of creating a wood to offset some of their carbon emissions (I read on the carbon footprint website that we should plant 10 trees each per year to offset our carbon emissions - don’t know how they worked it out…), others have always dreamed of having a woodland to design and manage, for others its about the ecology and diversity of life in woodlands that sparks their enthusiasm or simply the satisfaction of creating something beautiful for generations to enjoy. For me it’s a bit of all the above.

If you are interested in creating a community wood in Hadleigh, please email me at: wood land at old knobbley dot com (where woodland and oldknobbley are all one word) or post a message below.

I look forward to hearing from you,
